Cooking Suggestion: How to Make Traditional Sarma

Sauté the base: Finely chop onion and garlic, sauté with diced bacon in oil. Add garlic at the end.

Mix the filling: Combine the sautéed mix with ground meat, rinsed rice, and chopped parsley. Season with Vegeta, pepper, paprika, and a pinch of salt (be careful – the cabbage is already salted).

Roll the Sarma: Place a portion of filling on each cabbage leaf, fold the sides and roll up tightly.

Cook: Layer the rolls in a pot with chopped leftover cabbage, smoked ribs, and bay leaves. Cover with water and simmer gently for 2 hours. Do not stir – just shake the pot occasionally.

Finish: In a separate pan, heat oil with paprika, deglaze with some broth from the pot, and pour over the Sarma. Let it cook another 10–15 minutes.

Serving tip: Goes perfectly with boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes.
